Advocacy for Women’s Health Support Initiative (AWHSI) is a sex worker-led organization. It started as Kasese Women’s Health Support Initiative in 2011 and registered with Kasese District Local Government under Reg. No. 1654 until its transformation in early 2021 to Advocacy for Women’s Health Support Initiative.
Advocacy for Women’s Health Support Initiative aims at advocating for the rights of all sex workers, promoting the health and social-economic wellbeing of women, girls and Key Populations especially female sex workers, MSM and TGs. It particularly focuses on addressing the root causes of human rights violations such as gender based violence, stigma, discrimination and poverty fueled by criminalization and cultural norms at individual, community and national levels.
Working together as a team
Advocacy for Women Health Support Initiative has functional governance structures including the General Assembly of members, Board of Directors and Secretariat headed by the Executive Director, management team and program team.
